The Platform

Engage is a clinical research platform designed for real-world evidence collection. It serves three distinct user groups through three interconnected interfaces.

The patient-facing mobile app guides participants through study milestones, PRO surveys, and visit scheduling in a way that reduces burden and increases completion rates.

The site-facing web platform gives coordinators and research teams visibility into enrollment, data quality, and protocol adherence across complex multi-site studies.

The internal study management platform helped the clinical operations team build and configure studies end to end — creating study actions and milestones, configuring PROs (Patient Reported Outcomes) and ClinROs (Clinician Reported Outcomes), adding site admins, associating payments with specific actions, and providing view-only visibility into study progress across active deployments.

My Role

As Senior UX/UI Designer and PM, I owned design across all three platforms — the patient-facing app, the site-facing coordinator web platform, and the internal study management tool. This included end-to-end UX from discovery through engineering handoff, working directly alongside clinicians, research coordinators, data scientists, and engineers in regulated, interoperability-heavy environments.

I was as comfortable defining product requirements and driving roadmap decisions as I was designing the interface — a requirement in environments where good design and sound product judgment aren't separable.

The Design Challenge

Clinical research tools operate under constraints that most designers never encounter: strict regulatory requirements, demanding data integrity standards, workflows built around clinical protocols rather than user preferences, and a user base that spans three fundamentally different audiences — patients completing their first smartphone survey, site coordinators managing complex multi-site protocols, and internal clinical ops teams configuring studies before they ever go live.

The challenge was designing for all three simultaneously — building interfaces precise enough for regulated environments, simple enough for any patient to complete without support, and powerful enough for operations teams to configure complex study logic without errors.
